A journey into the heart of Surkhandarya: ancient Termez — the Buddhist complexes of Fayoztepa and Karatepa, the Archaeological Museum, the mausoleum of Hakim at-Termezi, the legendary Kirk-Kiz Palace, and the Sultan-Saodat necropolis. Day two — the Baysun mountains: a cultural center with national costumes, the centuries-old plane trees of Sayrob, the Derbent Gorge and the “Iron Gates,” the Zindonak grotto and Khojimoiy-Ota spring, Kyzyl Canyon and the “Ship” rock. Thought-through logistics: overnight train, 3★ hotel accommodation, meals, and a rich program.
This tour combines the classical heritage of Buddhist Bactria with the distinctive culture of mountainous Khorasan. You’ll see Sufi shrines, the ruins of the Old Termez fortresses, and the impressive natural panoramas of Surkhandarya. Day one is an immersion in the history of Termez with visits to key archaeological and religious sites; day two is a route through Baysun with passes, gorges, and viewpoints where in spring the hills are covered with carpets of poppies. Convenient for a weekend: night transfer, a comfortable excursion pace, return to Tashkent in the morning.
Tour Program
Day 0 (Friday)
— Meet at the South Railway Station at 20:10.
— Departure by night train to Termez.
Day 1 (Saturday)
— Arrival in Termez at 10:55; introduction to the old city.
— Termez Archaeological Museum.
— Fayoztepa Buddhist monastery (2nd–4th c.) on the Amu Darya.
— Karatepa Buddhist complex (2nd–5th c.).
— Lunch at a restaurant.
— Mausoleum of Hakim at-Termezi (9th–14th c.); nearby — ruins of the Old Termez fortress (5th c.).
— Kirk-Kiz Palace, linked to the legend of Princess Gulami and forty maidens.
— Sultan-Saodat Memorial Complex (11th–17th c.).
— Transfer to Baysun (about 150 km, ~2 hours).
— Dinner and rest at the hotel.
Day 2 (Sunday)
— Breakfast at the hotel.
— Cultural center: collections of national costumes and jewelry.
— Drive to Sayrob; centuries-old plane trees.
— Lunch.
— Derbent Gorge and the “Iron Gates” — a key pass on the Great Silk Road.
— Zindonak grotto and Khojimoiy-Ota spring.
— Kyzyl Canyon viewpoint, walk, and the “Ship” rock.
— Dinner at the hotel and transfer to the station.
— Return to Tashkent 20:26–08:19.
